Axel Rüger appointed director of The Frick Collection

Axel Rüger has been named the new Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director of The Frick Collection in New York, succeeding Ian Wardropper, who retired in January 2025. Currently serving as the Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Rüger will begin his role in spring 2025. His impressive background includes leading the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and The Mesdag Collection in The Hague, as well as being the Curator of Dutch Paintings from 1600 to 1800 at The National Gallery in London between 1999 and 2006. The Frick Collection is temporarily located at Frick Madison during a $290 million renovation, aiming to return to its original site in early 2025.
