Awol Erizku's First Major Monograph 'Mystic Parallax' Published by Aperture

'Mystic Parallax', the inaugural significant monograph on interdisciplinary artist Awol Erizku, has been co-published by Aperture and The Momentary. This 300-page hardcover showcases 168 images, chronicling Erizku's diverse career in photography, film, video, painting, and installation. His artistry reinterprets African American and African visual culture, intertwining hip hop language with nods to Nefertiti, spirituality, and Surrealism. The book features conceptual portraits of Black cultural figures like Solange, Amanda Gorman, and Michael B. Jordan, as well as his editorial contributions to the New Yorker, New York magazine, Time, and GQ. Erizku, born in Ethiopia in 1988 and based in Los Angeles, holds a BFA from Cooper Union (2010) and an MFA from Yale School of Art (2014). The release date is July 11, 2023.
