The National Gallery Singapore presents 'Awakenings: Art in Society in Asia 1960s-1990s', a major exhibition exploring experimental art practices during a period of ideological conflict, nationalism, modernization, and democratic movements across Asia. Running until September 15, 2019, the show features 142 provocative works by over 100 artists from 12 Asian countries. Co-organized with the Museum of Modern Art Tokyo (MOMAT), the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea (MMCA), and the Japan Foundation Asia Center, the exhibition is divided into three thematic sections: 'Questioning Structures' (relationships between objects and spaces), 'Artists and the City' (new boundaries and media, including body art like Yoko Ono's 1965 performance 'Cut Piece'), and 'New Solidarities' (challenging societal norms and ideologies).
