Australia and Brazil reveal pavilion artists and curators for 2022 Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The 59th Venice Biennale, running from 23 April to 27 November 2022, will feature distinct national presentations from Australia and Brazil. For the Australian pavilion, artist Marco Fusinato and curator Alexie Glass-Kantor have been selected by the Australia Council for the Arts. Fusinato's practice merges installation, performance, and recording, often employing electric guitar and mass amplification to explore the intensity of gesture. Glass-Kantor serves as the executive director of Artspace in Sydney. Brazil's representation, organized by the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, will be led by artist Jonathas de Andrade and curator Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. De Andrade's work across film, photography, and installation critically examines colonial histories and their enduring impacts. Crivelli Visconti recently curated the 34th Bienal de São Paulo. These appointments highlight the ongoing international significance of the Venice Biennale as a platform for contemporary art.
