Aurélie Sorriaux's Blow-Up 1 and 2 Acquired at Polycopies

publication · 2026-04-23

Laurent Perez purchased Aurélie Sorriaux's Blow-Up 1 and 2 at Polycopies, a photography book fair held on the Concorde Atlantique boat at Port de Solférino, Paris, from November 6–10, 2019. Sorriaux, born in 1994 in Nancy, studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. The two booklets, each 12 pages, are bound with string, lacking covers or text except for the artist's name, title, and year discreetly printed on the last page. Blow-Up 1, printed in a brownish-gray, features blurry, grainy images of a historicist early 20th-century building, transitioning to a bus and cars, then an indecipherable sidewalk and legs, before returning to the building from another angle. Blow-Up 2, printed in blue, radicalizes the experience with only low-angle views of trees and foliage. The works are figurative yet disarming, creating a narrative sequence without clear meaning. Priced at 5 euros each, the edition size is unknown.
