Aurèlia Muñoz's Most Ambitious Retrospective Opens at Reina Sofía
The Museo Reina Sofía presents 'Aurèlia Muñoz. Entes', the most comprehensive retrospective to date of the Catalan artist (1926–2011), a key figure in 20th-century European textile sculpture. Organized with MACBA to mark her centenary, the exhibition spans her career from the 1950s to the early 2000s, featuring over 150 works—many previously unseen—including embroidery, macramé sculptures, paper-pulp pieces, and archival materials. Curated by Fundació EINA's einaidea platform under Manuel Cirauqui, Rosa Lleó, and Sílvia Ventosa (the artist's daughter and archive director), the show occupies six rooms in the Nouvel Building. Highlights include monumental works like 'Palmera' (1974) and 'Homenaje a Jerónimo Bosco' (1971) from private collections, and pieces from the MoMA, MNAC, and Reina Sofía collections. The exhibition runs from April 29 to September 7, 2026 in Madrid, then moves to MACBA Barcelona from November 5. A co-published catalog accompanies the show, along with a public talk on April 28 and a study day on June 10.
