Aurèlia Muñoz's 'Entes' Retrospective Opens at Museo Reina Sofía

The Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid presents 'Aurèlia Muñoz. Entes', a major retrospective of the Catalan artist (1911–2011), curated by Manuel Cirauqui and Rosa Lleó with collaboration from her daughter Silvia Ventosa. Running from April 29 to September 7, 2026, the exhibition coincides with the centenary of her birth and marks the first time her archive materials—including delicate maquetas for her 'Pájaros-cometa' series—are shown publicly. Muñoz, who considered herself a sculptor, worked across embroidery, macramé, handmade paper, and textile sculpture, often collaborating with other artists and assistants like Josefina Salazar. Her works, such as the monumental 'Palmera' and the 'Entes' series, challenge traditional categories and are presented as living entities that transform spaces. The show includes loans from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and private collections, and follows a 2024 exhibition at the Centro Grau-Garriga. The gallery José de la Mano has been instrumental in reviving her legacy.
