Augustin Maurs curates Myth, Music and Electricity performance at Munich's Herkulessaal

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

On November 29, Augustin Maurs, a composer-curator from Berlin, organized an event titled Myth, Music and Electricity at Munich's Herkulessaal, showcasing nine artists, predominantly women. This historic venue, which was originally the throne room of King Ludwig, underwent reconstruction in 1957. Featured artists included Susan Philipsz, Monica Bonvicini, Angela Bulloch, Nina Canell, Robin Watkins, Sarah Schönfeld, Louis-Philippe Scoufaras, Karin Sander, and Beate Edwards. Among the works presented were Philipsz's Air on a Broken String (2015) and Sander's Blitz Concert (2008). Bonvicini showcased A Choir of Five (2017), while Canell and Watkins offered The Luminiferous Ether (2009). The event wrapped up with a piece by Maurs and Bulloch for ten electric bassists, reflecting on musicians' oversight of their environments, similar to Obrist and Parreno's 2007 project.
