Auguste brings Abruzzese cuisine to London Fields in former Papi space
Chef Mike Bagnall and co-owner Dylan Walters have opened Auguste, a new restaurant in London Fields occupying the former Papi space. The menu focuses on the cooking of Abruzzo, featuring arrosticini (flame-grilled skewers of cull yaw, liver, and wild boar), La Latteria stracciatella with black iberico tomatoes, and crème fraiche cappelletti in lamb brodo. Bagnall, who previously lived in Abruzzo, also sources low-intervention wines from the region, including Montepulciano grapes. The interior, designed and renovated by the owners on a self-funded budget, includes abstract paintings by Leevar Spies and a life-sized print of Edward Hopper's Soir Bleu. The space features hand-varnished plywood shelves and natural wine bottles displayed along one wall. Auguste is located at 373 Mentmore Terrace, London, E8 3DQ.
