August 2026 Arts Prizes: Booker Longlist, Hogarth Prize, and More

The August 2026 arts prize roundup announces winners and opportunities across the UK. The Booker Prize longlist of 13 novels, known as the Booker Dozen, was selected from 163 submissions, featuring two previous winners and three debut novelists. The judging panel is chaired by Mary Beard and includes Raymond Antrobus, Jarvis Cocker, Rebecca Liu, and Patricia Lockwood. London-based writer Sufjan Bile won the inaugural Groucho Club Writer's Residency, receiving a month-long stay, £1500 dining credit, one-year membership, and mentoring. The Hogarth Prize was awarded to Dr Adam Perchard for his work Leviathan, with £3000 and a solo exhibition at Hogarth's House in Spring 2027. The UK Town of Culture shortlist includes 15 towns, each receiving £60,000, with the winner to receive £3 million for a 2028 cultural season. Four photographers were shortlisted for the Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize: James Clifford Kent, Marcie Docherty, Katie Hitchcock-Smith, and Max Pattenden. Applications are open for the Future Focus Mentorship at the Royal Albert Hall for photographers aged 18-25. The Discerning Eye open call closes 27 August, and the Climate Playwriting Prize closes 1 September.
