August 2022 Art Awards: Quadriennale, Bally, Myllennium, and More
The Italian art scene saw a flurry of awards in August 2022. The Quadriennale di Roma awarded two post-doctoral research grants: Alessandra Franetovich for 21st-century Italian art and Vincenzo Estremo for digital art in Italy. Gaia Bobò was appointed as an under-30 curator-in-residence. The Bally Artist Award, now open to all Swiss artists, was won by Dominique Koch for her multisensory research. The Myllennium Award, promoted by Gruppo Barletta and Fondazione Barletta, gave over €160,000 to 39 under-30 talents across 10 categories. The Premio Città di Tarquinia “Luciano Marziano” for art critics and historians was awarded to Lorenzo Fiorucci. MAGMMA’s Premio Marchionni winners were Diego Vargiu (graphics) and Carlo Martini (painting). The Premio Stromboli honored media and culture figures, including Mediaset fiction L’Ora, photographer Marco Glaviano, and NFT artist Valentina Guarneri. Italian Council’s 11th edition funded 24 projects for international residencies and research. The 41st Sergio Amidei Screenplay Award went ex aequo to I Fratelli De Filippo and Compartment No. 6. Deutsche Bank’s Artists of the Year 2021 were Maxwell Alexandre, Conny Maier, and Zhang Xu Zhan, with an exhibition at Mudec Milano from September 8 to October 23. Animaphix’s Animated Painting section winner was Two Sisters by Anna Budanova.
