Audible Edge 2026: A Sublimely Curated Festival of Exploratory Music in Fremantle

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Audible Edge, Perth/Boorloo's artist-led international festival of exploratory music, celebrated its 10th anniversary from 1 to 3 May 2026 at Victoria Hall in Walyalup/Fremantle. The festival is presented by local experimental music label Tonelist, which also marked its 10th anniversary. Both were founded by experimental composer and saxophonist Josten Myburgh, who curates the festival with songwriter and sound artist Annika Moses. The 2026 edition consolidated all events into one venue over three days, a shift from previous multi-location, year-long formats. The opening night featured a Welcome to Country, followed by Pressure Bells, a new work by poet John Kinsella and composer Simon Charles evoking the Wheat Belt region. Performances included Lyndon Blue with saxophonist Flora Carbo, Aotearoa-based throat-singer Johnny Marks, and Dublin/Baltimore songwriter Cal Folger Day's 'soap-rock opera/love triangle'. Saturday showcased all-Melbourne/Naarm artists: noise artist Amby Downs, string trio Umbel, sound artist Davaajargal Tsaschikher, and singer-songwriter Jonnine with percussionist Maria Moles. Sunday featured Berlin-based sound artist Ira Hadžić, Alice Cummins' movement piece 'hear her breathe', and a finale by Perth sound artists Lia T and Rory Glacken. The festival was praised for its deep conversation with the venue and location, spanning multiple genres and generations.
