Auction to Save Alda Merini's House Museum in Milan

An auction titled 'Una piuma per Alda Merini' will be held on November 29, 2013, at Spazio Amira in Nola, near Naples, to raise funds for reopening the Casa Museo dedicated to poet Alda Merini in Milan. The event is organized by Bartolo di Giovanni, a teacher and friend of Merini. The museum, located in her former apartment in the Navigli district, was inaugurated on March 21, 2011, but closed after two years due to lack of municipal funding. The apartment contained the 'Muro degli Angeli,' a wall covered with Merini's writings and drawings, which was saved from demolition in 2012 after a campaign led by Di Giovanni and others. The wall was removed in nine panels and transferred to a former municipal tobacconist shop on Via Magolfa, designated as the museum site. However, the museum remains unopened due to incomplete installations and unpaid staff. The auction will feature artworks donated by various artists, along with readings, performances, and the presentation of a book containing a text by Merini. The event aims to pressure the city administration, led by Mayor Giuliano Pisapia, to allocate funds or find management strategies for the museum.
