Attraversamenti Multipli 2022: 22nd Edition of Rome's Performing Arts Festival

The 22nd edition of Attraversamenti Multipli, a multidisciplinary festival dedicated to contemporary performing arts curated by Margine Operativo (Alessandra Ferraro and Pako Graziani), runs until June 18 in Rome and June 25–26 in Toffia (Rieti). The festival has a visceral relationship with the city, exploring connections between performing arts, urban spaces, and citizens. After years of nomadism with a preference for regenerated spaces and new centralities in a polycentric metropolis, the festival has recently settled in the Quadraro district, this year also involving the Parco di Torre del Fiscale. The program features site-specific performances, relational formats, and performative hybridizations with 22 companies, including 4 international ones. The curators discuss how Rome has become increasingly polycentric, an assembly of many cities within the city, and the festival aims to create dialogue with these multiple cities. They also address the presence of diverse cultures and new citizenships in Rome, with the festival's triennial theme 'everything is connected' emphasizing interconnectedness through non-linear relations. Artists are selected through a year-long continuous process, with many premieres, studies, and site-specific works. The festival expands into green areas this year, engaging the Parco di Torre del Fiscale (part of the Parco Archeologico dell'Appia Antica) with site-specific works in dialogue with the natural/archaeological landscape.
