Atta Kwami wins 2021 Maria Lassnig Prize; Tekla Aslanishvili receives Han Nefkens video award.

Atta Kwami has been honored with the 2021 Maria Lassnig Prize, which comes with a €50,000 reward and a collaborative venture with London's Serpentine Galleries set for 2022. This partnership between the Lassnig Foundation and Serpentine will lead to a monograph and a public art project. Kwami, who is based in Loughborough, UK, works in various mediums, including painting and sculpture, while also being an independent curator and art historian. The Maria Lassnig Prize, established in 2015, celebrates mid-career artists and has previously recognized talents like Cathy Wilkes and Sheela Gowda. Meanwhile, Tekla Aslanishvili has earned the 2020 Han Nefkens Foundation Video Art Production Award of $15,000, with her video project due by November 2021.
