ATRIUM Network Preserves Europe's Totalitarian Architecture
ATRIUM, which stands for Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the XXth Century in Europe's Urban Memory, is based in Forlì, Italy. Launched in 2013, it includes 14 organizations from Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania, along with partnerships with 27 European universities. The initiative received the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in 2014 for its exploration of "dissonant heritage," particularly focusing on Italy's Ventennio fascista and Soviet architecture from 1950 to 1970. Key projects include the 2015 exhibition "Cesare Valle," the award-winning play "Speer architettura e/è potere" that won the Premio Sipario in 2016, and the "Totally Lost" exhibition in 2016, showcasing 186 photographers and 300 "uncomfortable places," including Giuseppe Vaccaro's Colonia Marina Sandro Mussolini from 1937-1938.
