Atlas of Transitions Festival Returns to Bologna with Focus on Home and Migration
The biennial festival Atlas of Transitions, initiated by Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione with Cantieri Meticci and the Department of Sociology and Law of the University of Bologna, returns for its second edition from March 1 to 10, 2019, under the title HOME. The festival explores the concept of home in relation to migration and citizenship, moving from the public sphere of the first edition (Right to the City) to intimate domestic spaces. Key events include a performance by Malian choreographer Fatoumata Bagayoko addressing female genital mutilation, a project by Estonian artist Kristina Norman on domestic workers, and Tania Bruguera's participatory referendum asking 'Should we abolish borders?' The festival also features an edit-a-thon with Wikimedia Foundation to address gender gaps on Wikipedia, and a docufilm by ZimmerFrei following a young migrant in Bologna. Curated by Piersandra Di Matteo, the program includes artists such as Nydia Blas, whose photograph of two women with gold cloth explores racialization and sexuality, and poet Ribka Sibhatu. Partners include Santarcangelo dei Teatri and Homo Novus festival in Riga. The festival aims to engage diverse publics beyond traditional theater audiences, fostering dialogue with activists, foreign associations, and local communities.
