Atlante della Sardegna nuragica: mappatura digitale del patrimonio archeologico sardo
A Cagliari, in the former Tobacco Factory, the geoportal NuragicReturn was unveiled as part of the PNRR during the 'Nuragic Week' (November 25-28). This platform combines data from drones, topographical surveys, aerial photographs, historical-documentary archives, and environmental risk information, providing a comprehensive overview of the archaeological heritage of the Nuragic civilization, which thrived in Sardinia from 1800 BC to the 3rd century BC. A preliminary census has identified over 10,000 monuments across 9,410 sites. By 2026, citizens will be able to actively participate by reporting new structures and uploading georeferenced images, fostering a model of 'participatory archaeology.' The initiative is backed by AI Archeo-Hub, a center for AI in archaeology, established with Sardinian universities and Duke University (North Carolina). Piepaolo Vargiu, president of the Association La Sardegna verso l'Unesco, described the Nuragic heritage as 'a precious diamond long kept locked away' and 'a catalyst for cultural, economic, and tourist development.'
