Athens Biennale 6: ANTI Explores Opposition as Political Resistance

The sixth Athens Biennale, titled ANTI, runs from October 26 to December 9, 2018, in Athens, Greece. Curated by Stefanie Hessler, Kostis Stafylakis, and Poka-Yio, the biennial takes place in a historic building that has housed the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization since 1930. The exhibition features over 100 international artists, including Carsten Höller, Miltos Manetas, and Eva and Franco Mattes, alongside many Greek artists from different generations. The theme centers on opposition as a systematic form of reaction to power, examining political, social, and cultural resistance in the age of social media, fake news, and algorithms. The biennial coincides with the end of a harsh decade for Greece marked by economic, political, and social crisis. The show aims to educate the public on the pleasure and discomfort embodied in both revolt and reaction, oscillating between power and rebellion.
