Athanasios Argianas's Hollowed Water exhibition at ARCH Athens explores affect through hybrid sculptures and sound

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From 3 June to 31 August 2021, Athanasios Argianas presents his exhibition Hollowed Water at ARCH in Athens, revisiting a showcase from Camden Arts Centre in London. The exhibition integrates film, sound, and sculpture to investigate the transformation of emotions into language. Among the displayed works are ceramic pieces known as Tilebodies (sleepers) (2021), which evoke the appearance of armor for hybrid human-sea beings. Additionally, inscribed steel and brass ribbons titled Song Machine 20 (2020) are featured. A sound installation, Pivoting Music (2020), emanates from two sculptures named Principal and Metalique. On the floor, two bronze Binaural Head sculptures (2020) rest. The show also includes a three-minute film installation, Hollowed Water (2020), and a black-and-white photograph titled Octopus (2020), depicting a cat within a seashell.
