Aterballetto presents new works by Cristiana Morganti and Hofesh Shechter

Aterballetto, the Italian dance company based in Reggio Emilia, premiered two new works at the NID Platform in Gorizia, Italy, marking the debut of the company's new artistic direction under Gigi Cristoforetti and Pompea Santoro. The first piece, "Non sapevano dove lasciarmi," is choreographed by Cristiana Morganti, a former dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal who trained under Pina Bausch. The work features Bauschian elements such as personal confessions from dancers, ironic vignettes, and a collage of music, but also shows Morganti's evolving independent style. The second piece, "Wolf," is by Israeli-born British choreographer Hofesh Shechter, originally created ten years ago for the Scottish Ballet under the title "Dog." The work is an energetic, animalistic performance for sixteen dancers, characterized by percussive rhythms, mechanical sounds, and primal movements. The double bill will tour Italian cities including Reggio Emilia (Fonderia39, December 20), Ferrara (Teatro Comunale, February 24, 2018), and Modena (Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti, May 11, 2018).
