Ateneo Art Awards 2019 winners announced, ICOM museum definition vote, MEI Art Gallery opening, and Ars Fennica prize
The Ateneo Art Awards of 2019 recognized three winners of the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art: Costantino Zicarelli for 'Years of Dust Will Build A Mountain', Keb Cerda for 'Super Nardo: False Profits', and Archie Oclos for 'Lupang Hinirang', which addresses extrajudicial killings during President Rodrigo Duterte's administration. Duterte also received the People's Choice Award. Each winner will obtain residency grants from Ateneo Art Gallery and its partners. An exhibition featuring the shortlisted entries is open until 27 October. In July, ICOM announced a vote regarding a new definition for museums. Washington DC's MEI Art Gallery will debut 'Arabicity | Ourouba' on 14 September, running until 22 November. Additionally, Trump enacted a 10% tariff on Chinese art starting 1 September. Eric Golo Stone is set to take over as artistic director of Künstlerhaus Stuttgart from Fatima Hellberg, while Ragnar Kjartansson has been awarded Finland's Ars Fennica prize. Mariana Pestana was appointed curator for the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial, scheduled for September 2020.
