Atelier XÜK Renovates Ancient Banyan Plaza in Huizhou Village

architecture-design · 2026-05-13

Atelier XÜK has completed the renovation of Ancient Banyan Plaza in Zhongxin Village, Huizhou, Guangdong, China. The 615-square-meter project, finished in 2025, centers on two ancient banyan trees at the village entrance. Zhongxin Village, over 700 years old, sits in a mountain basin with a river flowing through a valley. Most existing buildings, constructed in the 1990s with brick-concrete, were recently uniformly renovated with painted facades and metal eaves, reflecting contemporary rural Chinese daily life. Photographs by Yumeng Zhu document the project.
