Atelier dell'Errore's Guardian Animals at Moretti Gallery, London

exhibition · 2026-05-05

During Frieze Week in London, Moretti Fine Art in Mayfair hosted 'The Guardian Animals + other invisible beings', an exhibition by the Italian collective Atelier dell'Errore. Founded in 2003 by Luca Santiago Mora, Atelier dell'Errore began as an expressive workshop supporting child neuropsychiatry departments in Reggio Emilia and Bergamo. The show is split into two sections: one features large-format white-background drawings by under-18 artists inspired by Carlo Dolci's 17th-century 'Angelo Custode', where insects symbolize protective animals; the other presents pencil-on-black-background works by adult artists, inspired by Andrea de Bartoli's 14th-century 'Arcangelo Michele', with insects embodying the seven deadly sins. The exhibition also launched the catalogue 'Atlante di Zoologia profetica' by Marco Belpoliti, published by Corraini. A dialogue at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura featured Massimiliano Gioni, Arturo Galansino (then Royal Academy curator, now director of Palazzo Strozzi), and the young artists. The show ran until November 4, 2016.
