Atelier Archmixing Completes Relocation and Expansion of Wuning Middle School in Shanghai

Atelier Archmixing has successfully relocated and expanded Wuning Middle School, now known as The Second High School Affiliated to Tongji University, situated in Shanghai's Putuo District. Completed in 2024, the project involved a strategic land swap that moved the school from the northwest to the southeast of the site at 186 Dongxin Road, as sanctioned by urban planning officials. This relocation responds to the area's high-density urban setting, flanked by Light Rail Line 3 and the Inner Ring Highway to the north, and surrounded by residential areas. The new facility accommodates 40 classes across 35,579 square meters. Lead architects ZHUANG Shen and ZHU Jie directed a team that included Shanghai Atelier Archmixing Co., Ltd. for interiors, Jiangsu Zhusen Architectural Design Co., Ltd. for landscaping, and other specialized firms for structural, facade, and lighting design. The project was curated by HAN Shuang, with photography by Runzi Zhu, and was commissioned by the Putuo District Education Service Center in Shanghai.
