Atalaya House: A 36 m² Watchtower Cabin by Refugio Outdoor

Refugio Outdoor, led by architect Felipe Valdivia, has designed Atalaya House, a 36-square-meter cabin and lodge completed in 2026. The project, curated by Valentina Díaz, reinterprets the traditional watchtower concept, emphasizing that such structures need not be tall or surveillant but can offer perspective from elevated openings. The design team includes Lukas Yunge, with Jorge Alvarado on the technical team. Photographs by Ennio Nasi document the project. Materials and products from Arauco, DVP, MK, Molino Viejo, and Vesto were used. The architects' description highlights that a watchtower's privileged position in architecture necessitates openings above ground level, yet it can achieve perspective without dominating a territory.
