Astrophotographer Captures Boeing 737 Transiting Sun After 1.7 Million Shots
Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy captured a United Airlines Boeing 737 flying in front of the Sun after taking 1.7 million photos over six days. The image, titled 'The Traveler,' was shot using two telescopes pointed at the Sun, capturing 10 frames per second. The plane was en route from Houston to Los Angeles. McCarthy also serendipitously captured two solar prominences, one of which was part of a small coronal mass ejection. He showed the final image to the flight crew. McCarthy previously gained attention for a shot of a skydiver in front of the Sun.
