Astronauts' hydroformed 'Agnes' bed reclaims female agency at Milan Design Week 2026

architecture-design · 2026-05-01

At Milan Design Week 2026, Athens-based design duo Astronauts (Danae Dasyra and Joe Bradford) unveiled 'Agnes,' a king-size hydroformed steel bed presented at Nilufar Gallery's Casa Magica as part of their Goetia series. The pink, sculptural piece references Agnes Sampson, a Scottish healer executed for witchcraft, and explores histories of femininity, magic, and persecution. Using hydroforming—a process that uses water pressure to distort metal—the designers created a form that appears caught mid-shift, resisting fixed shape. The bed is structurally sound and functional, but its glossy, fleshy surfaces evoke tension and fluidity. Astronauts describe the work as reclaiming 'the power of sex, birth and healing as an enduring act of resistance.' The piece was photographed by Yiorgos Kaplanidis with model Terpsichore Khalil.
