Assouline Releases Deluxe Basquiat Monograph with 200+ Artworks

Assouline has published 'Basquiat: The World of Jean-Michel,' a luxury monograph that contextualizes Jean-Michel Basquiat's practice within the 1980s New York art scene. Released in May 2026 as part of Assouline's 'Ultimate' collection, the volume features over 200 artworks and archival photographs. It is organized into six thematic chapters covering Basquiat's head drawings, his relationship with New York, male archetypes, Black and African artistic traditions, and mythological iconography. The book includes written contributions from George Condo, Peter Brandt, Lenny Kravitz, Keith Haring, bell hooks, and Valentino Garavani. Bruno Bischofberger, Basquiat's former exclusive representative, and Silvia Sokalski wrote the introduction. The monograph is packaged in a clamshell box with a tactile canvas-like material. Archival images include Basquiat in his studio at Annina Nosei Gallery in SoHo and a photograph with Andy Warhol at Tony Shafrazi Gallery in 1985.
