Assisi's Christmas Light Show: 10,000 sqm of Videomapping on Giotto's Frescoes
The town of Assisi has launched 'Il Natale di Francesco', a Christmas initiative featuring 10,000 square meters of videomapping projections on iconic buildings, including the Cathedral of San Rufino, Piazza del Municipio, and the Basilica of San Francesco. The project, running until January 6, 2021, aims to bring light during the pandemic and honor healthcare workers. Artistic direction is by architect Mario Cucinella, who created 'La Basilica di cristallo' for the Basilica's facade, revealing Giotto's frescoes through light and imagery. The videomapping was conceived by Marco Capasso Studio Creativo. Mayor Stefania Proietti emphasized the symbolic act of lighting up the city. The event also offers digital access via a dedicated website and app, allowing remote viewing of the projections. The initiative seeks to reduce distances between Assisi and the rest of Italy during the pandemic.
