Assemble to launch SPLATWARE tableware via Kickstarter at Designjunction
The Turner Prize-winning collective Assemble will debut a new line of experimental tableware called SPLATWARE at Designjunction, part of the London Design Festival. The products, created by Granby Workshop—a social enterprise established by Assemble in Liverpool's Toxteth neighborhood—will be available for purchase on Kickstarter starting September 9, 2017. At the fair, Assemble will also operate a café offering free drinks and biscuits, serving as a hub for designers to meet with Kickstarter representatives. Designjunction, founded in 2011, features around 200 international design brands across multiple venues in King's Cross, including Cubitt House, Cubitt Park, The Canopy, Granary Square, and The Crossing, from September 21 to 24, 2017. The 2016 edition attracted over 27,000 visitors. Assemble, founded in London in 2010, comprises about 20 artists, architects, and designers under 35. They won the 2015 Turner Prize for a community regeneration project in Liverpool, which included a showroom for products made from waste materials by a social enterprise. SPLATWARE continues this ethos with limited-edition ceramic tableware.
