exhibition · 2026-04-20

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung launched the 2024 Asian Art Biennial, titled 'How to Hold Your Breath', on 16 November, with the event scheduled to continue until 2 March. Curated by Fang Yen Hsiang and a team, the exhibition showcases 83 pieces from 35 artists across more than 20 nations, including 19 newly commissioned works. This year's biennial broadens its scope to incorporate artists from Central Asia and the Middle East. Notable pieces include 'Breathing in a House' (2008) by Pak Sheung Chuen, Marwa Arsanios's explorations of land use, 'A Night We Held Between' (2024) by Noor Abed, Nil Yalter's 'I AM (Circular Rituals)' (1992), and Tao Leigh Goffe's 'Black Pacific, Chinese Atlantic' (2024). The event highlights the concept of breath as a means to cope with uncertainty.
