Asia Society Launches Triennial of Asia in New York for 2020

In spring 2020, Asia Society, a nonprofit educational organization established in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, will host the inaugural Triennial of Asia in New York. The event, named 'We Do Not Dream Alone,' is scheduled from June 5 to August 9, 2020, at various locations, including Asia Society and other venues throughout New York. Approximately forty artists, alongside scientists, historians, and policy experts from regions such as Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe, and America, will participate. This festival seeks to showcase artists unfamiliar to American audiences, delving into themes of art, identity, and politics. Co-curated by Boon Hui Tan and Michelle Yun, Asia Society’s president Josette Sheeran emphasized the celebration of Asian artists and innovators on a global stage. The triennial will be free for all attendees, reflecting an increasing Western fascination with Asian art markets, as evidenced by galleries like White Cube and Gagosian opening branches in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
