Ashfika Rahman Awarded Future Generation Art Prize 2024 in Kyiv
Ashfika Rahman, a 35-year-old artist hailing from Bangladesh, has been awarded the Future Generation Art Prize for 2024 by the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine. The prize includes a total of $100,000, comprising $60,000 in cash and $40,000 dedicated to her artistic endeavors. Rahman's artwork focuses on the roles of women in society, engaging with local communities in Bangladesh through diverse mediums. During the award ceremony, she highlighted the importance of the accolade in light of the current global political situation. A jury, featuring Cecilia Alemani among others, recognized her work for its examination of the partition of the Indian subcontinent and its sociopolitical consequences. Additionally, Special Prize recipients Tara Abdullah Mohammed Sharif, Bekhbaatar Enkhtur, Dina Mimi, Hira Nabi, Ipeh Nur, and Zhang Xu Zhan each received $20,000. The exhibition showcasing 21 shortlisted artists will remain open until January 19, 2025. Rahman is the seventh recipient of this biennial award for artists under 35.
