Ash to Art: Animation Tells Story of Glasgow School of Fire Recovery
A 2014 fire destroyed most of the Glasgow School of Art, a Charles Rennie Mackintosh masterpiece, leaving only the exterior shell and turning the interior to charcoal and ash. The Ash to Art charity project transforms these ruins into artworks, auctions them, and uses proceeds to help rebuild the building. An animated video commissioned by J. Walter Thompson and produced by Jelly London using charcoal collected on site tells the story from the fire to artworks by Grayson Perry, Joseph Kosuth, and Antony Gormley, auctioned by Christie's in early 2017 for over £700,000.
