ASA captures silhouette on iPhone X in Corsica

Corsican photographer ASA (Antonia Sisco Andritch) captured a striking silhouette of a young woman in Bastia, Corsica, in 2018 using an iPhone X. The image, taken during the height of summer when strong sunlight created sharp shadows, shows the woman walking with a lightness that ASA later interpreted as possibly heading to a romantic appointment. ASA waited patiently on one side of the street as strangers passed through the frame. The photograph was selected as the Guardian's best phone picture. ASA, who has long been intrigued by anonymity, prefers working in intense light that burns facades and turns people into silhouettes.
