arXiv Paper Argues 'Third Axis' in AI Training Is Freedom, Not Exploration
A recent publication on arXiv (ID 2608.05423) questions the validity of 'Explorative Modeling' (XM) in the context of generative AI training. The author posits that the so-called 'third pretraining axis,' linked to generative expressivity, should be viewed as 'freedom' rather than exploration, highlighting the limitations of a model's behavioral constraints. This study builds on earlier findings that suggest freedom relates to function instead of form, indicating that variations in parameters, architecture, minimum-description-length (MDL), and data do not alter the behavioral constraint. It has been established that the weakest models tend to generalize better, with freedom selection outperforming MDL by 110-500% in induction tests. The latest proof indicates that the average XM loss is influenced by the likelihood of a candidate overlooking an acceptance region. This paper is classified as a cross-type announcement and can be accessed at https://arxiv.org/abs/2608.05423.
