ArtXAuction Launches with 'The Perennial Curation' in Tokyo, Blending Tech and Tradition

ArtXAuction, a new platform aiming to disrupt Japan's art market, will hold its inaugural auction titled 'The Perennial Curation' on March 16th, 2024. The event combines online bidding with a physical venue at the historic former residence of Count Ogasawara in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward. Founded by tech entrepreneur Yuki Hariguchi and artist Riko Shuri Monma, the team includes Yuu Watari, who bridges contemporary and classical art, and former gallery director Ryusei Iriki. Their multidisciplinary approach leverages technology to enhance accessibility and transparency for collectors. The auction features a cross-epoch selection, from ancient Roman artifacts to works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse, challenging traditional chronological segmentation. Hariguchi emphasizes using tech tools to democratize art, while Monma highlights interdisciplinary collaboration. The platform plans future innovations like a dedicated app and AI integration for personalized experiences. Educational programs accompany the commercial offerings to foster art literacy. A portion of proceeds, 3 percent, will support the marine conservation NPO Global Coralition.
