ArtVerona Launches Open Source at Vinitaly, Antinori Art Project as Case Study
At Vinitaly 2016, ArtVerona introduced Open Source, a new format conceived by artistic director Andrea Bruciati to explore intersections between culture and business. The platform aims to foster 'happy contaminations' between economy and contemporary art, aligning with an 'expanded fair' model that creates synergies across territories. The initiative follows Veronafiere's acquisition of ArtVerona and seeks to engage adjacent worlds such as entrepreneurship, patronage, and collecting. Open Source may extend to other Veronafiere events like Marmo+Design and Fiera Cavalli, attracting new audiences. The Antinori Art Project, supported by the Tuscan winery, served as a case study. Led by Alessia Antinori, a passionate collector, in collaboration with gallerist Chiara Rusconi, the project is housed at the family's cellar in Bargino, designed by architect Marco Casamonti of Studio Archea. The low-impact, energy-efficient structure integrates into the Chianti landscape, visible only as two long fissures in the hill. It hosts the family's 26-generation wine history and their patronage legacy dating to the 1400s. The site has become a major tourist attraction with 40,000 paying visitors in the last year. Its spacious interiors have hosted site-specific contemporary art projects curated biennially by Chiara Parisi and Ilaria Bonacossa, featuring international artists like Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Tomas Saraceno, and Patrick Tuttofuoco.
