Artsy and BMW Launch City Guide Feature for Artsy App

digital · 2026-05-04

Artsy has partnered with BMW to launch City Guide, a new feature for its app that uses augmented reality and GPS to help users discover nearby museums, exhibitions, and events. The guide covers six major art hubs: New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris, Los Angeles, and Berlin. Users can browse artworks, access artist information, and purchase works directly through the app. The feature includes personalized recommendations based on user preferences and allows virtual placement of artworks in homes via AR. The partnership also includes the Future of Art film series featuring Trevor Paglen, Carrie Mae Weems, and Elizabeth Diller. Fatma Collins, Artsy's Head of Product Development, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. The iOS update is available from March 25, 2019, with a launch event on March 27 at Écriture & Piqniq on the roof of H Queens in Hong Kong during Art Basel Hong Kong. Artsy's network includes over 3,000 galleries, 800 museums, and 80 art fairs across 90 countries.
