Artshell: A New Integrated Software for the Art World

Artshell is a new software platform designed to streamline the management of galleries, collections, foundations, and museums, offering integrated archiving, presentation, and sharing capabilities through a simple interface. Developed by Bernabò Visconti, the project began in early 2015 with a team of professionals focusing on creating a flexible architecture to handle diverse artworks and internal processes across primary and secondary markets, institutions, and non-profits. The idea emerged from observing the complex dynamics of the art world, particularly the need for small galleries to have a single tool for daily administration and communication with collectors. During development, insights were gained from the Milano Art Bulletin (which uses Artshell) and Mousse Magazine, highlighting the need for multifunctionality over multiple specialized tools. Artshell is also being explored for state-level digitalization of Italian cultural heritage, with collaborations already underway with Italian museums and institutions. Future updates include direct gallery website management from the program, with new versions released every four months incorporating user feedback.
