ArtReview's March 2019 Book Selection: Four Critical Publications on Modern Art History

ArtReview's March 2019 issue features reviews of four significant art publications. Alan Powers' 'Bauhaus Goes West: Modern Art and Design in Britain and America' examines the Bauhaus school's migration from Nazi Germany to Western countries, tracing its transformation from a teaching model to a design philosophy emphasizing function over form. Carolin Scharpff-Striebich's edited volume 'Let's Talk Abstract' brings together 16 art professionals to discuss abstract painting through selected works. 'Sovereign Words. Indigenous Art, Curation and Criticism,' edited by Katya García Antón, addresses how museums are reconstructing narratives around colonization and globalization in art history. Josephine Berry's 'Art and (Bare) Life' critiques art's role within neoliberal societies using Michel Foucault's concept of biopower. All books were published in early 2019 with prices ranging from £24.95 to €32.
