ArtReview Power 100 2022: ruangrupa tops, Cecilia Alemani second, unions third

ArtReview has published its 2022 Power 100 list, ranking the most influential figures in the art world. The Indonesian collective ruangrupa, founded in 2000 in Jakarta and curators of Documenta 15, takes the top spot for challenging art's role in society through the concept of "lumbung." Italian curator Cecilia Alemani rises from 18th to second place for her 59th Venice Biennale, which featured the highest-ever number of female and non-binary artists (191 out of 213) and became the most visited Biennale ever. Third place goes to art worker unions, including AWI Art Workers Italy, BBK Berlin, and Za K.R.U.H. Croatia, for global campaigns like "A Better Guggenheim" and "Barbican Stories." The top 10 also includes Hito Steyerl (4th), Fred Moten (5th), Wolfgang Tillmans (6th), Simone Leigh (7th), Nan Goldin (8th), David Zwirner (9th), and Darren Walker (10th). Italian figures in the list: Miuccia Prada (45th), Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (60th), Lucia Pietroiusti (90th), and Massimiliano Gioni (95th). The list was compiled by ArtReview magazine.
