ArtReview partners with BMW Group Culture for 2021 BMW Art Journey initiative
ArtReview has announced a partnership with BMW Group Culture for the 2021 BMW Art Journey, a joint initiative with Art Basel that supports artists traveling globally for research and new work creation. The collaboration will feature digital content including a podcast called 'Close Encounters' as part of ArtReview's 'Subject, Object, Verb' series, exploring laureates' creative journeys. Social media takeovers, video postcards, and a Zoom live conversation with awardees are also planned. Eligibility for the BMW Art Journey is limited to emerging and mid-career artists from Art Basel Hong Kong's Discoveries sector and those represented by galleries founded within the last decade. Recent recipients include Hong Kong-based sculptor Leelee Chan and Shanghai-based artist Lu Yang, with the 2021 winner yet to be announced. The 2021 jury in Hong Kong comprises Claire Hsu of Asia Art Archive, Matthias Mühling of Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo of Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Philip Tinari of UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, and artist Samson Young, the 2015 winner. Hedwig Solis Weinstein, BMW's Head of Brand Cooperations, Arts & Design, described the award as offering a mobile studio experience to foster creativity through travel. A free collectible from a previous winner is available, with Leelee Chan's collectible set for release in September 2021.
