ArtReview Culture Club Debates Immersive Art vs. Gallery Experience

ArtReview Culture Club will host a conversation titled 'Immersive Art or the End of the Gallery?' on September 7, 2023, at Shoreditch Arts Club in London. The event, presented by Exactly.ai, will feature artists Julianknxx and Marguerite Humeau in discussion with ArtReview editor J.J. Charlesworth. The talk will explore whether immersive digital experiences are replacing traditional gallery exhibitions and what this means for critical engagement with art. Julianknxx, an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of poetry, visual art, and filmmaking, describes his practice as a 'living archive' inspired by West African oral history. He is currently a resident artist at 180 Studios in London and will open a solo exhibition at the Barbican on September 14. Marguerite Humeau creates speculative works spanning prehistory to imagined futures, aiming to generate new mythologies. Her 160-acre earthwork Orisons in Hooper, Colorado—produced with the nomadic art museum Black Cube—opened in July 2023 and runs through June 2025. She exhibited at the 59th Venice Biennale. The event is part of ArtReview Culture Club's 2023-2024 talks programme, which gathers art professionals, creatives, and collectors to discuss timely topics.
