ArtReview Asia's 2019 holiday book guide features eight diverse publications from Asian artists and authors

ArtReview Asia released an online exclusive holiday book guide on 19 December 2019, highlighting eight publications. Pak Sheung Chuen's 'Nightmare Wallpaper' documents his therapeutic response to Hong Kong's political climate through court sketches and automatic drawings from Umbrella Movement hearings, published by Para Site. Masahisa Fukase's 'Family', a rerelease by Mack Books, presents playful family studio portraits from Hokkaido, with texts by Fukase and Tomo Kosuga. Atelier Hoko's 'Science of the Secondary: Boxed Set' offers a design-focused exploration of mundane objects, self-published from Singapore. Filipino artists Allan Balisi and Dina Gadia collaborated on 'Diver', a risograph artbook printed by Bad Student Press in Quezon City. Kapil Das's 'Something So Clear', a Steidl Book Prize Asia winner, features decade-long photographic observations of India from Bangalore. Dusadee Huntrakul and Pat created 'Grandma, I Want a Penis', a children's book based on a personal story, available at Bangkok CityCity Gallery. Suon Sorin's 1961 nationalist novel 'A New Sun Rises over the Old Land', translated by Roger Nelson and published by NUS Press, depicts postcolonial Cambodia. John Cage's expanded diary collection 'How to Improve the World (You Will Only Make Matters Worse)', published by Siglio Press, incorporates I Ching-determined layouts.
