artpress2 n°38 explores puppetry as a cross-disciplinary art form

The August 2015 issue of artpress2, titled "La marionnette sur toutes les scènes," is entirely dedicated to puppetry, positioning it as a vital force across contemporary art forms. The issue argues that puppetry, no longer confined to children's entertainment, now permeates theater, dance, video, cinema, and visual arts. It blends avant-garde legacies, post-1968 formal experimentation, hyperrealist sculpture, projected imagery, and digital arts. Puppeteers are renewing performing arts while expanding into performance and installation. International success of artists like Philippe Gentil, Handspring Puppet Company, and Gisèle Vienne, along with festivals such as the Charleville-Mézières festival (September 18–27, 2015) and institutions like TJP – Centre Dramatique National de Strasbourg, demonstrates public demand. The issue was coordinated by Carole Guidicelli (PhD, Université Paris 3) and Didier Plassard (professor, Université Paul Valéry de Montpellier), with contributions from leading specialists. It examines hybridizations of puppetry in France and abroad.
