artpress Special Issue: Latin American Art and Struggles

The French art magazine artpress has released a special issue titled "Amérique latine. Arts et combats," focusing on the vibrant and self-determined Latin American art scene. Edited by Diego Milos and Michelle Sommer, the issue features contributions from critics and art historians across the region, covering topics such as indigenous art, Black representation, gender issues, and social crisis. It highlights major and lesser-known artists, curators, and independent spaces, presenting a comprehensive overview of contemporary Latin American art. The issue includes articles on memory and history, including a piece on Argentine memories and art against oblivion by María Teresa Constantín, and a look at the 1980s neo-avant-garde in Chile by Juan José Santos Mateo. Other topics include the Cuban scene, the work of José Alejandro Restrepo, Fredi Casco, and Juan Pablo Langlois. The issue also addresses minorities and struggles, with interviews and features on Andrea Giunta, Black voices in Brazilian visual arts, and artists like Juliana Notari and Elena Tejada-Herrera.
