Artpress interviews Louis Calaferte, French literary outsider
Artpress has published a volume of interviews with Louis Calaferte, a major but often marginalized French writer of the 20th century. The book, part of the 'Les grands entretiens d’artpress' series, includes an introduction by Jacques Henric and previously unpublished letters to Henric. Calaferte first shocked the literary world in 1953 with 'Requiem des innocents' (Julliard), a critical and commercial success. In 1963, his novel 'Septentrion' (Tchou) was banned for pornography, cementing his status as a 'poète maudit'. Despite moral opposition, he continued to produce a vast and powerful body of novels, plays, and poetry until his death in 1994, marked by a fundamental defiance against the cowardice of his era. The interview is conducted by Patrick Amine.
