Artpress compiles Jean Baudrillard interviews
Artpress has released a compilation of interviews with French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, originally published in the magazine across three decades. The volume includes a 1985 interview on his book 'La Gauche divine,' critiquing socialism in power; a 1986 discussion on 'America,' where he emphasized his non-realist approach; and a 1996 conversation with Catherine Francblin following his essay 'The Conspiracy of Art,' in which he attacked contemporary art. Baudrillard criticized the consumption of art as a sign and the disappearance of the concrete object behind accumulated discourses. The book features interviews by Catherine Francblin, Jacques Henric, and Guy Scarpetta, with a preface by Francblin. A quote from Baudrillard describes his intellectual trajectory: 'Pataphysician at twenty, situationist at thirty, utopian at forty, transversal at fifty, viral and metaphysical at sixty — that's my whole story.'
